This week in Pre-School 10.7.23

Good morning,

This week we will begin a new two-week long focus on transition. We will be looking back on our time in Pre-School over the past year and will look at photographs of key events such as our Autumn craft morning, Christmas celebrations, Easter egg hunt, water play and our visits from a police officer and Animal HQ. We will ask the children about their favourite memories and will discuss how they may have felt on their first day at Pre-School. These discussions will be linked to RE and our church school value of Responsibility which is all about caring for ourselves and others. We will explain ways in which Christians show care for others and will read the story, Jesus Washes His Disciples Feet. The children will think of ways they could help the new children who will join Pre-School in September settle in, and they will then help to create peg labels for them. We will be reading stories across the week about starting school/Pre-School and will highlight and discuss how the characters may feel at different points throughout the story. We understand that this time of year can be unsettling for some children and we will focus on creating positive feelings for the future.

In phonics this week we will be focussing on sounds we can make with our voices. We will play games that encourage the children to listen to and create sounds with their voices and will also play, 'Whose voice?'. This is a game the children always enjoy during which a blindfolded child has to work out who calls out a particular silly phrase such as 'Fish and chips!'.

In Maths this week we will be exploring everything number. We will be using practising and extending our knowledge of written numerals, subitising and counting and for our older children we will explore problem solving.

Transition Over the next two weeks children going to Reception in September will be going in to Miss Smoothy's class for a story at the end of the day. Children will also go in to Reception for their ‘stay and play’ hour on either Monday or Tuesday this week. Children moving to Reception in September will receive their Pre-School transition report this week. We will send a separate memo inviting you to book a meeting with either myself or Mrs Deller next week if you wish to discuss any worries you have or ways you can support your child with the transition.

Dates to remember Friday 14th July - Summer Fayre starting at 2:30pm. If you wish to collect your child early, please let us know on the day in the morning. Wednesday 19th July - Graduation Ceremony for those going to Reception in September Tuesday 25th July - last day of term

We hope you have a lovely week.

The Pre-School Team 😊
