This week in Pre-School 19.6.23
Good Morning,
We hope you enjoyed the weekend.
This week we will be starting our new focus book, ‘Franklin Wants a Pet’. We will use this story to explore this half term's Character Education focus, Leadership and will discuss how Franklin shows determination as he strives to prove he can take care of a pet. This week we will share the story and begin to explore questions such as, ‘What is a pet?’ ‘How does Franklin show that he is responsible enough for a pet?’ and ‘How do we look after a pet?’ Our continuous provision will also be enhanced with invitations to play related to pets which will encourage the children to communicate their ideas of what makes a good pet and how to take care of pets. Thank you for all the photos we have had so far of your pets. We have enjoyed looking through them and we know the children will love sharing them with their friends over the next few weeks.
In Makaton we will learn signs for pets. Please follow this link if you would like to support this learning at home. https://youtu.be/hU4hyyfv2qs
In Maths this week, we will continue to explore and extend our understanding of number. Some of the children will practise counting, developing their understanding that we say one number name for each object as we count. Other children will be learning how to work out what 'one more' is and how to solve simple real-world mathematical problems such as, ‘How many cups will we need at snack time today?’. We will also encourage the children to make marks to represent amounts as they problem solve.
In Phonics this week, we will continue to explore rhythm and rhyme. We will play games that encourage the children to think of words to continue rhyming strings as well as playing interactive rhyming pairs games.
Although the weather has been a little cooler this weekend please can we ask that the children come to Pre-School with sun cream and that you pop a named sun cream in their bag for us to re apply at lunchtime. Please ensure your child also has a named sunhat and a drinks bottle with them. We are encouraging the children to drink more regularly in this hot weather and have been having regular drink breaks throughout the day.
As always if you have any questions, please do let us know. We are always happy to talk to you
Thank you for your continued support.
The Pre-School Team. 🙂
