This week in Pre-School 2.5.23

Good Morning,

Welcome to the month of May! We hope you all enjoyed the extended weekend. We are beginning to feel warmer in the Pre-School garden with some children telling us it is too warm with their coats on. Thank you to the families that are sending in sun hats and sun cream so far. Please can we ask that all children bring in a named sun hat and that you apply sun cream to your child before Pre-School. If you would like us to re-apply sun cream after lunch, please send named sun cream in in a named sandwich bag and remove it from their bags before they come in. Please could we also ask that you check that jumpers are named as the children are beginning to take off their jumpers throughout the day and it can be tricky to distinguish between several blue jumpers.

In Reading this week, we will be completing our last week on our focus book, The Pirates Next Door. The children have enjoyed exploring the themes in this book and discussing what a good friend looks like. Last week, some of children enjoyed experiencing their own treasure hunt around the school (see photos attached) when we found a treasure map in the place of their snack. The children were exceptionally well behaved walking around the school and enjoyed chatting to staff as they followed the map. They also showed great friendship skills as they held hands and took turns looking at the treasure map. This week, we will be creating our own story map as well as encouraging the children to re-tell the story in their own words.

In Maths this week, we are exploring subitising. The children will be practising seeing a number and saying the amount without counting each object. We will be looking at numbers up to 5. The children really enjoy counting and subitising and there are lots of games that you can play to develop their skills. Games that involve dice are a great place to start. Please find a link below for a game to play at home if you would like to. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/ladybird-spots

In phonics this week we will be exploring the sounds made by different instruments. We will play games that encourage the children to listen to and describe the sounds they hear made by different instruments. We will also see if the children can match sounds to the correct instrument.

In Makaton we will be learning signs for numbers. Please see a link below if you would like to practise at home https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hh-d0Lwc14g We will also begin to learn some number songs with Makaton including 5 Little ducks and 5 currant buns https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9cO382kluw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SvlmUfkmJg

Dates to remember: 2nd May 2023 (9 – 9.45) – Coffee morning for parents. Theme for this session is SEND. If you would like to drop in and talk about a SEND need for your child, you can talk to other parents and the SENDCo will also be there to talk. 5th May 2023 Coronation Celebration 2pm-3pm. Cream tea will be provided by the school for children to share with parents.

8th May 2023 Bank holiday Monday. Pre-School and School closed.

Please remember we are always happy to talk to you before or after Pre-School. Please wait for all the children to be safely inside or returned to their families and we can chat to you then. Alternatively, for non-urgent messages you can always drop us a message on Tapestry or email the school office and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Thank you for your continued support :)
