This week in Pre-School 9.5.23

Good morning,

We hope you enjoyed another extended weekend!

This week we will use the story, Miss Rabbit’s Day Off to introduce our mini-topic about different occupations. Thank you so much to those of you who have sent us observations of your occupations. The children love talking about their families and we know they will enjoy showing these pictures this week. We will also have visits from different staff members across the week including, Miss Smoothy, Gemma Douglas from the office and Mr Nelson-Smith. The children will get a chance to hear about their jobs and to ask them questions to find out more information. We will also be asking the children what they would like to do for jobs when they grow up which is always a fun activity!

In phonics this week we will continue to explore the sounds made by different instruments. The children will engage in activities such as follow my leader and will also create sound effects for stories. Some of the older children will also continue to explore blending and segmenting through word games in small groups.

This week in maths we will be focussing on shapes, in particular squares and cubes. We will play games such as 'Guess my shape' and will practise describing shapes by their properties using simple mathematical language. We will look at a variety of shapes and will think about how the square compares to other shapes. We will also be using 2D shapes and 3D shapes to draw and create pictures as well as using them to construct buildings as we talk about the shapes we are using and why we are using them. We would love to see any constructions the children create at home so please do pop a photo on Tapestry for the children to share on the big screen if they wish too.

In Makaton, we will continue learning the songs 5 little ducks and 5 currents buns because the children really enjoyed them and have started to master the Makaton. We will also introduce the song 5 fire trucks to link in with our mini topic. You can find the link below if you would like to sing them at home. https://youtu.be/x_I2ysM0w0g

As always we are always happy to answer any questions or queries that you may have.

Thank you for your continued support.

The Pre-School Team. 🙂
