This week in Preschool 23.1.23

Updated: Apr 13, 2023

This week will be the last week on our focus story, Don’t Be Afraid Little Pip. The children have really enjoyed this story and have been able to sequence the story using pictures to show how much they remember. We will continue to discuss how Pip challenges herself and perseveres to follow her passion and will encourage the children to think of things they aspire to do too. We will also learn about Chinese New Year this week and our environment will be enhanced with themed activities for the children to explore.

In Phonics we will continue to explore the sounds made by different instruments. This week we will focus on listening to and remembering sounds through games such as follow the leader.

In Maths this week, we will be exploring numbers 1-3. We will be playing lots of practical games such as clapping and jumping up to 3. We will be looking at what 3 looks like as an amount by collecting 3 objects from around Preschool and arranging them in different ways. We will spend time really thinking about what 3 looks like as an amount and understanding what a number means when we count. If your child spots any amounts in the environment (3 leaves, 2 sticks, 2 birds in a tree) please post an observation on Tapestry as we would love to share it on our big screen. Some of our children will also be looking at the written numeral and will have a go at forming it themselves. Please find a link below with a game to support counting. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/teddy-numbers

In Makaton we will learn some signs for our winter clothing. Please find the link below if you would like to practise at home with your child.

Please remember to add an observation to your child’s journal about a passion of theirs. This will support our learning in RE this half term which is around our Church School Value, Passion.

Thank you for your continued support,

The Preschool Team 😊
