This week in Preschool 5.12.22

Good morning,

We hope you enjoyed some festive activities this weekend. There are now only 2 weeks left before Christmas holidays!

The children are really enjoying out focus story, Dear Santa. This week we will be seeing whether the children can remember the sequence of the story as well as some of the descriptive words Santa uses to describe the presents he wraps up. We will continue to enhance our environment with Christmas themed activities this week such as cut and stick Christmas lists.

The children were also very excited to learn the Makaton signs for Dear Santa last week. We will continue to tell the story using Makaton but also add in some further seasonal signs.

In Maths we will be recapping our learning of numbers 1-5. We will be learning to recognise numerals 1-5, to identify groups of amounts from 1-5 and to recognise amounts without counting (subitising). we will also begin to introduce the term ‘one more’ for some children. Lots of this learning will take place through play, as the children spot numbers, problem solve, share and explore our environment.

In Phonics this week we will be focussing on oral blending and segmenting of CVC words such as c-a-t. We will play games that encourage the children to listen to 3 sounds and then help them to blend them together to identify the word. We will also ask the children to listen carefully to the sounds in CVC words and support them to hear each individual sound (segmenting). Please follow the link below to a segmenting and blending interactive resource if you would like to support your child’s learning at home.

In RE we will continue to learn about our Church School value, Inspire. We would really appreciate it if you could add an observation of a photograph of someone who inspires your child. More information about this was sent in last week's memo. We will also read the nativity story this week.

If you use a 30-hour code, please remember that you may need to renew it before next term. You should receive an email reminding you to logon to your government gateway account to do so when it’s nearly time to renew. If you have received a 30hr code recently, please let the office or us know before the end of term if you would like to use it for funding for January.

Some dates to remember…

Tuesday 13th December - Christmas Fayre. This will be opened by the children meeting on the playground to sing Christmas carols.

Wednesday 14th December. - Christmas Lunch/ Christmas Jumper Day-

Thursday 15th. December - Preschool Christmas Sing-along/Christmas party

As always, if you have any questions, queries or concerns, please so ask.

Thank you for all your support,

The Preschool Team 😊
